Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

is an autoimmune disease that is rarely seen in dogs and can be associated with arthritis, kidney disease, skin disease and anemia. SLE is seen more frequently in Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, and German Shepherds than other breeds. Blood tests and biopsies of the skin may aid in the diagnosis of SLE. Treatment is usually with a combination of corticosteroids, chemotherapeutic agents, and supportive care.

Urinary Tract infection (UTI)

is an infection of bladder. Dogs with loss of voluntary urination are more prone to develop UTI. Diagnosis is made with a urinalysis and urine culture. Treatment is typically with antibiotics for several weeks.
